Since 1911 the Long Beach Police Department has been one of the finest continuing law enforcement agencies in Nassau County. We are a modern, professional, full service Department dedicated to providing intelligent, sincere, efficient and courteous service to the citizens of Long Beach through the employment of the community policing team concept by working in partnership with our citizens to serve the needs of the community.
The safety and well being of our citizens is our number one concern and is never compromised as we strive to work within the fiscal guidelines established by our City administration. Productivity has increased and crime has decreased despite reduced staffing. This has been accomplished through the reorganization of the command staff and improved communication.
The weekly Command Staff Meetings insure the Department benefits from the knowledge and expertise of over two hundred years of combined police experience in Long Beach. Strategies derived from such meetings, such as giving commanders discretion on when to assign personnel to beach patrol based on weather conditions, were directly responsible for saving the lives of five after hours swimmers this past summer.
As for improved communication, the Long Beach Police Department's response time has always been second to none. A recent upgrade giving the Long Beach residents the ability to dial 911 in an emergency and get a direct connection with the Long Beach Police Department station house has reduced our response time even further.
We have introduced a new Street Crimes Unit. They have the tasked with targeting and addressing special problem situations within the community.
We continue to follow the lead of our City administration by regularly attending City Council and community meetings and listening to the concerns of the residents living in all areas of the City. We then work together with the local residents to provide the appropriate response to their specific complaints. This approach has been effective in dealing with complaints ranging from narcotics to noise complaints.
