The Long Beach Police Department is participating in the statewide “Click it or Ticket” traffic safety campaign. Our department will be launching an aggressive seat belt enforcement program beginning May 1, 2010 until May 31, 2010 aimed at getting individuals to buckle up. Officers and checkpoints will be posted throughout the city to stop every person they see in a moving vehicle not wearing a safety belt. The fine for a driver, front seat passenger, or a rear passenger under 16 not wearing a seat belt is $130.00 and there will be no exceptions or excuses.

Wearing your seat belt is the best defense against crash-related injuries and fatalities. Nassau County statistics have shown that deaths in frontal crashes are reduced about 26 percent among drivers using safety belts and about 32 percent among drivers without belts. Routine safety belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. Wearing your seat belt can save your life so remember to buckle up!
