Imagine you have an emergency in your home. Would emergency personnel be able to find your house? The Police, Fire, and EMS workers who serve the City of Long Beach need your help to find you in your time of need.
As per the City Code of Ordinances section 13-77(d) "The owner of every building shall be responsible for maintaining on the front side of each such building, wether residential or commercial, the street address number of such building in numerals at least three (3) inches in height, which shall be unobstructed and clearly visible from the roadway or sidewalk in front of such building."
Here are some tips to keep in mind:
The Code of Ordinances only requires the numbers to be at least three (3) inches in height, but bigger is better.
Do NOT use numbers written in script.
Use numbers that contrast the color of your home or business.
Provide lighting to numbers during evening hours to ensure visibility.
Reflective numbers are a good idea, but new LED house numbers provide the best visibility.
Do NOT put numbers on your garage door. If your garage door is open, nobody can see your numbers.
Check to see if your numbers are indeed visible, by viewing them from the middle of the street.
Make sure your numbers can be seen from every angle and that a tree or shrub does not block the view of your numbers.
