Police Commissioner Thomas R. Sofield, Sr. of the Long Beach Police Department announced the promotion of Police Officer Michael Langlois to the rank of Sergeant, Police Officer Karl Hayes to the rank of Detective and the appointment of Rocco Walsh and Patrick Yule to the rank of Police Officer. Commissioner Thomas Sofield stated, “The Long Beach Police Department is fortunate to have men of Sergeant Langlois and Detective Hayes’ caliber, and it is with great pride that I announce their promotion,” Commissioner Sofield added, “Police Officers Walsh and Yule are a welcome addition to the Department. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Long Beach Police Department and they are well equipped to serve the needs of the Long Beach Community and the goals of the Police Department. They could not have been hired at a more opportune time with the summer season upon us.”
City Manager Charles T. Theofan swore in Sergeant Langlois, Detective Hayes and Police Officers Walsh and Yule. The ceremony was held at Long Beach City Hall on July 1, 2008.
Sergeant Langlois joined the Long Beach Police Department on January 20, 1984, when he was sworn in as a Police Officer. Sergeant Langlois has served with distinction during his career with the Long Beach Police Department, receiving numerous departmental awards for life saving and excellent police duty. Sergeant Langlois said, “I am very grateful to be given this opportunity to further serve the public. I’m looking forward to working hard for the citizens of Long Beach.” Sergeant Langlois graduated in 1980 from SUNY Albany, where he earned his Bachelors Degree.
Detective Hayes joined the Long Beach Police Department on December 1, 1998, when he was sworn in as a Police Officer. Detective Hayes has served with distinction during his career with the Long Beach Police Department, receiving numerous departmental awards, that includes the Department’s commendation award and excellent police duty award. Detective Hayes said, “This is an honor and privilege and I look forward to serving the Long Beach community in my new role.” Detective Hayes graduated from SUNY at Old Westbury in 1993, where he earned his Bachelors Degree.
Police Officer Walsh was a four-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. His latest assignment was with the Manhattan North Narcotics Unit where he served as an investigator. Prior to his assignment with the Narcotics Unit, Officer Walsh was assigned to the Midtown South Precinct in Manhattan. Officer Walsh graduated from Hobart College with a Bachelors Degree.
Police Officer Yule was a four-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. He was assigned to the 110th Precinct in the borough of Queens where he was in a position of trust as the Precinct’s Property Officer. Officer Yule graduated with honors from both Nassau County Community College and Northeastern University, where he majored in Criminal Justice. He received an Associate’s Degree and Bachelors Degree respectively.
