On behalf of the Long Beach Police Department I want to extend a sincere thank you to the Long Beach community for all of the information and help that was offered today in regards to the tragic active shooter incident that occurred at the Stop and Shop in West Hempstead. The sense of caring, concern, and community partnership that was demonstrated throughout the day with telephone calls, emails and text messages, provided helpful information as to the possible whereabouts of the suspect and his family members which were more than useful. The Long Beach Police Department played an active role in providing information to investigators and law enforcement agencies across the county to assist in enabling the arrest of this individual in as peaceful a manner as possible. It is heartening to know that when it matters most we were able to come together as a community for the safety and protection of us all.
